LAS VEGAS (AP) — Republicans who hope to win in battleground Nevada are taking cues from a strategy that helped President Barack Obama win the state twice.

Officials from the Republican National Committee said they’ve hired 40 paid staff in the swing state, including a state director, regional directors and 29 “turf coordinators” who each aim to recruit 50 volunteers of their own.

They say they’re focused on cultivating relationships that will help push Republicans to the polls.

The party faces tough competition from Democrats, who declined to give specific details about their ground game in Nevada but have a growing voter registration advantage and benefit from Hillary Clinton’s sophisticated campaign organization.

Republican presumptive nominee Donald Trump has relied on large rallies and media coverage and trails Clinton in building a traditional campaign operation.
